Pro bono for drones

How we support UA Drone School

During the war, many forms of cooperation and partnership acquire a new color, become not only a manifestation of support and help to those who need it, but also a matter of pride for those who help.

These are pro bono projects.

Pro bono is professional help on a free basis. Initially, such assistance was provided to charities, public and other non-profit organizations, but today we speak of pro bono as professional expert support on a free basis in the broadest sense.

Quite often, Pro bono is interpreted as a form of charity, but in fact these are different concepts, although close in content. Charity provides assistance to certain categories of persons only in certain areas and for specific purposes, regardless of the professional qualities of the benefactor. Pro bono is professional help.

How pro bono "works" in the world

Pro bono practice in America originated at the end of the 19th century. In America, private law firms began to advise the indigent population as early as the end of the 19th century. The American Bar Association's Code of Professional Ethics has adopted a rule that states that a lawyer must spend at least 50 working hours per year providing professional services without charge. In the US, law schools require students to participate in a pro bono program. This is an unspoken rule during admission to higher educational law institutions, as well as when receiving an MBA.

In Europe, it started even earlier, in the XIII-XIV centuries, when the French guild of lawyers obliged lawyers to help poor citizens. Today in France, free trial lawyers are provided under the state subsidized legal aid program.

The LawWorks coordination center has been operating in Great Britain since 1997. He processes the applications of those who need help and transfers their cases to a specialist who is part of the team of lawyers who serve the center.

What is happening in other areas?

Pro bono is not only in the legal field, but also in other fields - in accounting, financial and audit services, information technology, translation services and others.

Often within individual countries, pro bono practice is coordinated by a national non-profit organization that connects organizations in need of legal assistance with legal firms that can provide such assistance free of charge.

How is it organized here?

It is believed that providing one-time assistance is not so difficult. This requires time, professionalism and the desire of a specialist. It is much more difficult to provide pro bono services on a regular basis.

For us, pro bono is not just "doing something for free", it means supporting those who share our values, helping those who strive to achieve results in their activities for the benefit of Ukraine.

‍We are currently developing criteria for selecting pro bono projects. First of all, we welcome organizations whose activities are socially useful and important, meet the goals of sustainable development of the UN, provide assistance to displaced persons, the Ukrainian army, etc.

A pro bono project that we are particularly proud of

The website of any school, however, like any other website, is a place where personal data is collected, stored and processed. And the presence of documents that explain to the user how all this happens is a prerequisite for the normal functioning of the site, as well as for the safety of "students" and "teachers".

And if it is not about a simple school, but UA Drone School?

Then the availability of these documents is, without exaggeration, a vital step for the school and our contribution to the victory of Ukraine.

In the first days of the war, the Ukrainian army was faced with a shortage of professional operators, and fighters with the need to operate a drone without training. The Army's need for qualified UAV operators has become obvious.

UA Drone School is a drone school in Kyiv and the Kyiv region, where defenders of Ukraine study for free. This is a full-cycle school for drone pilots, with theoretical and technical training, practical classes simulating the execution of real combat missions.

The main goal of the school is to prevent the number of casualties at the front due to unqualified control of drones and ignorance of safety rules.

For UA Drone School, on pro bono terms, we have prepared legal documents that explain to the site user what happens to his personal data: Terms of use, Notice on the processing of personal data, Cookie policy.

Social responsibility is the need for business to work for the benefit of people

In recent years, people often started talking about the social responsibility of business. It can be said that with the help of pro bono, the company demonstrates its values, stands out favorably among competitors, unites the team, etc.

However, we can say that pro bono projects for us are not about PR.

In the activities of any organization, especially during wartime, there are moments with which only you can help grow up And if this organization works day and night for victory, for the benefit of Ukraine, then we, as a law firm, feel the NEED to support it and contribute to its activities pro bono publico - for the public good.
